The Microsoft Baseline Configuration Analyzer (MBCA) tool analyzes a system‘s configuration based on a predefined configuration baseline model obtained from Microsoft. Even though using a s cript or a separately available graphical user interface (GUI) is the preferred method to run the tool, you can also run it directly from the command line, using the executable file, MBCA.exe. Please refer to the command-line Help for available options and required arguments.
Warning: Only MBCA models provided by Microsoft should be used with this tool. Using an MBCA model not provided by Microsoft could introduce malicious code into your system.
Some important notes:
1. s cripts and the GUI are made available with>
MBCA baseline configuration models provided by Microsoft. It is recommended that the MBCA tool be used in conjunction with these s cripts or the separately available GUI.
2. The MBCA tool must be provided with an MBCA baseline configuration model. In most cases, the provided s cripts and GUI pass the model to the MBCA tool.
3. The MBCA tool accesses a system抯 configuration information during processing and may require administrator privileges to run. The tool will not be able to analyze configuration settings for which it does not have read permission.
4. The MBCA tool provides the ability to update MBCA baseline configuration models using Microsoft Update. The system must be configured for Microsoft Update in order to utilize this functionality. 5. With the Microsoft supplied MBCA baseline configuration models used as input, the tool performs read-only Operations on the system under test. This product does not change state, but is dependent upon the MBCA baseline configuration model used for input.
